November 14, 2010 - Yesterday, two Novato Youth Football teams won their respective Division Championships to gain spots in the 2010 AYF National Championships in Florida. The Novato Stingers won the AYF NorCal Division II PeeWee Championship with a resounding 30-6 win over cross-county rivals the Southern Marin Broncos. The Novato Yellow Jackets won the AYF NorCall Division II Junior Midget Championship with a solid 30-0 win over the Elk Grove Dukes. Both games were held at Monterey Trails High School in Elk Grove.
The Stingers got solid performance from quarterback Tommy Sanz and two-way players Keith Bradshaw and Paul Kunst who helped the Stingers make the National Championships for the second straight year. The Yellow Jackets got a resounding performance from their "Black Swarm" defense, which held the Elk Grove Dukes to 3 first downs all day. Nate Barkus led the way with two touchdown catches, an interception and a recovery on an onside kick in the first half.
Both Novato teams have earned positions in the 2010 AYF National Championships which will be held in Orlando, Florida from December 4-11. With nearly 70 players and coaches needing to fund their way to this special event in a very short time the Novato Youth Football & Cheer (NYF&C) program is pulling out all the stops to help send the both teams. From now until December 4th players, coaches and parents will be soliciting donations in front of local businesses and during local events; people will be hosting car washes, dinners, rummage sales and other fundraisers in the local community; and others are already reaching out to local business for donations and sponsorships for the upcoming year. All funds raised will be used to help cover the costs of getting all players who can and want to go to the National Championships to Orlanda. Some of these kids, many of them on scholarships enabling them to play, were able to participate in the National Championships last year and for some it was the first time they had been on an airplane, gone somewhere out of state, or - in a few cases - even stayed in a hotel or anywhere away from home.
Because of these difficult financial times we realize that there are many important organizations competing for scarce funding so we appreciate every penny, nickel, dime, quarter, dollar and more that people are willing to give in support of this effort. Whether this involves bringing your spare change from the kitchen drawer or writing a check in support of the program, Novato Youth Football appreciate any assistance you can provide.
Information: To find out more about the efforts underway, check out the NYF&C website at novatoyouthfootball.com.
Sponsorships: If you or your business would like to be a sponsor for the upcoming year, see novatoyouthfootball.com/fund_raising_home or call Bill Kelly at 415.827.5082
Communications: For all other questions, media inquiries or access to photos, please contact Jason Cassee at 415.827.2872
